Freelance content and copywriting services for marine organisations & NGOs
Knowing how to talk about your organisation or project in a way everyone can understand can feel like an overwhelming task for many organisations – particularly if you work in marine science or conservation. But if you’re not sure where to start when it comes to telling your organisation’s story in a clear and compelling way, don’t panic. That’s where I come in.
As a journalist writing regularly for Nat Geo, BBC Wildlife and other top-tier publications, I know how to find exciting ocean stories and tell them in a clear and compelling way.
One of my favourite things is taking a complicated subject and making it not just easily understandable but interesting to your audience. Because I love the ocean, the process usually involves me absolutely geeking out. Whether you need help with a light-hearted blog, an in-depth article on an important marine science discovery or an annual report, I’ll chat to you and your team to get to the bottom of what you’d like to say and how we can tell your story in an engaging and inspiring way. Then, I’ll distil our conversations (along with my own research) into the end result and share the draft with you. Sounds good so far? Each of my clients is different and has unique needs. As such, all my copywriting quotes are bespoke and take into account factors such as the length and complexity of the project, deadlines and levels of research involved. If you'd like to discuss a quote for your project, please get in touch.
My services are priced based on my level of expertise and value I can add. If my pricing is out of your budget, it might be possible to reduce the scope or recommend another freelancer.
The great thing about working in the for-purpose sector is that there are several brilliant other freelancers working in the same space and I have a great network. We see each other as friends and collaborators rather than competition. This means if I don't have capacity, I can recommend someone else or work with another suitable freelancer (or several) to get the project done.
I don't charge using a day rate or by word count. Instead, I offer package pricing and all my quotes are bespoke depending on the type, length, timings and complexity of your project. We'll agree the price before I start work and, if my quoted fee is out of your range, we can reduce the scope of work before getting started. Having a clear fee for the agreed deliverables means you know exactly where you stand and there are no nasty budget surprises if something takes longer than we anticipated.
No - while I do offer copywriting services (for organisations) and also do editorial writing (that is, writing for papers, magazines and websites), they are two very separate types of work. You're welcome to hire me to write articles for your own channels because I'm creating the content for you. But when I write for a publication, I pitch stories because I feel they will educate, engage and inspire their readers - not because I'm being paid by an organisation (as this would constitute a conflict of interests).
If you have a story you think I might be interested in editorially, feel free to get in touch and we can chat about whether it's something I think will be a good fit to pitch my editors - but this is not a 'service' I offer so I can't be hired for this type of work.
